Mr. James L. Ferraro received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami in 1978. A year later, he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the same institution. In 1983, Mr. Ferraro earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law and has been practicing law for twenty-five years.
Mr. Ferraro is a Certified Public Accountant and as an adjunct professor, taught Accounting at the University of Miami in 1982 and 1983. He was admitted to the United States Tax Court in 1994 and is a member of the American and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Ohio Bar, the New York bar and the Massachusetts Bar; the American Bar Association; the American Association for Justice; the Florida Justice Association; and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Mr. Ferraro was named one of ten national finalists for Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1997 for trying the first case successfully prosecuted against a chemical company for causing a birth defect. In Castillo vs. E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Mr. Ferraro proved that a pregnant woman's exposure to DuPont's fungicide, Benlate, caused her son to be born without eyes. The trial was covered in its entirety on Court TV and received worldwide attention.
Mr. Ferraro is the founding partner of The Ferraro Law Firm in Miami, Florida, and is a partner in Kelley & Ferraro LLP. His firms currently represent over 30,000 claimants. Mr. Ferraro is the majority owner of the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League. He is on the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida and The Children's Home Society of Florida Foundation. Mr. Ferraro was inducted into the Order of Saint John Knights of Malta in 1999 and he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2001.
